HERISA is a Minnesota registered private health and research institute that focuses on health and research issues for minority communities including Somali Americans in the United States. Its overarching goal is to improve the overall health of minority communities through research, health education, capacity building, and community engagement. HERISA partners with government health departments, Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), academia and community based organization in order to reduce or eliminate the health disparities that Minnesota's minority communities are facing.
Part of HERISA’s collaborative projects and partnerships are based on bilingual (English and Somali) services led by Somali-American health and research professionals with graduate degrees coupled with extensive professional and personal experiences.
